Xbox @ Gamescom 2021

Earlier this morning Xbox took to the virtual stage to showcase the up and coming works within the world of Xbox.

Even though Xbox had previously set expectations for the show, there were some great games on show to keep fans excited for what’s coming to the platform, and from their studios. This includes news from the worlds of Forza, Sea of Thieves, Flight Sim, Dying Light 2, Xbox Game Pass and more

Here’s a look at what was on show:

Forza Horizon 5 – 9th November

Forza Horizon 5 is getting closer and Playground Games gave viewers a look at the opening 8 minutes of gameplay, the cover stars for the game and that brilliant Limited Edition controller.

Xbox Cloud Gaming – Holiday 2021

Xbox announced that their Cloud Gaming service will be coming to the Xbox One, allowing previous generation consoles to take advantage of the new-generation of gaming through the service for Series S/X only games like Flight Sim.

This service is available for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers of select regions but not currently Australia. We have reached out for comment on when it may make its way to our shores.

Crusader Kings III – 2021 – Xbox Series S/X

It was announced that Crusader Kings III will be making its way to the Xbox Series S and X later this year.

“Paradox Interactive’s grand strategy game lets you rule how you want. Power hungry strategy lovers on console can now experience the thrill of shaping or re-shaping history by guiding their dynasty of living and breathing characters with an adaptation specifically modified for the strengths of the next-gen console environment.”

Dying Light 2 Stay Human

The team behind Dying Light 2 showcased some of the parkour and combat of the upcoming title.

Stray Blade – Xbox Series X|S – 2022

“In Stray Blade, you’ll fight to regain your freedom in hyper-responsive combat scenarios, explore ancient ruins for rare crafting materials, and survive glorious battles versus legendary foes. Learn more about this upcoming game that aims to blend Metroidvania elements with intense Souls-like combat.”

The Gunk – December 2021

“The Gunk is the first 3D project from the team that brought you the SteamWorld series, crafting a more cinematic and immersive experience than anything they’ve done before, with a story-driven sci-fi exploration game. With Smart Delivery support, you’ll be able to experience the best version available for your console. On Xbox One, you can expect a stable 30fps experience that offers the beautiful art design and graphical flourishes that you have seen in today’s trailer. If you’re playing on Xbox Series X|S, everything will be dialed up with a smooth 60fps gameplay experience at up to 4K resolution.”

Humble Games Bringing Incredible Indies to Xbox Game Pass Day One

Humble Games announced that their line up of indie games will be launching for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S on day one and available with Xbox Game Pass. You can see the line up below.

Sea of Thieves x Borderlands – In-Game Event

Mayhem is coming to Sea of Thieves in the form of a Borderlands event that gives pirates the chance to earn Borderlands inspired cosmetics.

Microsoft Flight Simulator – DLC

A number of upcoming content updates and additions were shown at the show including World Update VI which updates the regions of Germany, Austria and Switzerland with new aerial imagery, high-resolution elevation maps, brand-new 3D cities and the Junkers JU-52 aircraft. Also announced was the VoloCity Air Taxi (November) and the addition of the famous STIHL National Championship Air Races.

State of Decay 2 Homecoming Update – 1st September – DLC

State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition will see the return of the original State of Decay map, fully remastered. The remastered map will also bring new characters and storylines, six new bases, unique weapons and more.

Wasteland 3 – DLC

Wasteland 3 is getting new content in the form of the Cult of the Holy Detonation. “Cult of the Holy Detonation expands the Wasteland 3 experience with entry into the Cheyenne Mountain complex, crammed with new characters, enemies, challenging combat encounters, and powerful new weapons and armor. It’s one last mission for the Rangers in Colorado, and the outcome is certain to be explosive—one way or the other.” 

The Cult of the Holy Detonation expansion can be purchased separately or as part of the Colorado Collection which brings gamers the base game, both The Battle of Steeltown and Cult of the Holy Detonation expansions, as well as the Colorado Survival Gear bonus items.

Age of Empires IV

“The Age of Empires team revealed an exciting storytelling element from the upcoming Age of Empires IV, called Hands on History. This series of twenty-eight unlockable videos was filmed on location with experts around the world and give players a deeper look into the way people lived, fought and ruled in the past. Fans got an exclusive first look at one of the videos today, highlighting everyone’s favorite medieval weapon – the trebuchet!”
