OMG Game of the Year 2021 – Multiplatform, FPS and New IP

Over the next 12 days, we, (the OMG crew) are announcing our games of the year for 2021 in  32 categories. These games have been nominated, categorised, and discussed by those behind the scenes here. We do acknowledge that not everyone’s favourite 2021 games are on our lists, as unfortunately we are not able to play and review every game that comes to console.

Up today is Best Multiplatform title, First Person Shooter and New IP for 2021

Best Multiplatform Game

These games must be available on 2 or more consoles.

Winner – It Takes Two

Unfortunately no review of It Takes Two, but we have all sunk our teeth into it, especially once it hit Game Pass.

Honourable Mention – Resident Evil Village

Resident Evil Village is like being at a strangely familiar but brand-new theme park with 4 heart pounding interactive thrill rides, with the Village being the actual park and each of the 4 distinct areas being a different ride. Each giving a taste of diversity, with action packed set pieces, various enemy monster types and unique but campy bosses. While these 4 thrill rides all fit the survival horror genre, they each feel like a separate entity, making some way better than the others. Unfortunately for those wanting more of the same as Resident Evil 7, or a consistent ride all the way through, they will not find it here. But if players want an entertaining and wild ride, then Resident Evil Village delivers at a breakneck speed. 9/10 – Reviewed by Pottsy, review found here.

Honourable Mention – Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

First Person Shooter

These games must fit into the First Person Shooter genre.

Winner – Halo Infinite

Halo Infinite’s free multiplayer experience comes to gamers at a time where many have been looking for their next venture into the Halo universe and while it’s not the campaign that many are waiting for, there is a lot of Halo related fun to be had. The game brings some amazing and well designs maps and the new additions to the game fit right in like they’ve always been there. There are some tweaks that are required to make this game the best it can be, but as this game comes to players pre-launch in beta form, I have no doubt that improvements will come, and if the Master Chief Collection is anything to go by, these will continue for years to come. If you haven’t downloaded this one yet, then you really should give it a go. Now bring on the campaign.

Unfortunately our in-depth Halo Infinite campaign review is on going, but you can find our multiplayer review here.

Honourable Mention – Far Cry 6

I have seen so many people say “it is just another Far Cry” and I get it, they’re right. However, if it wasn’t just another Far Cry I would be less interested. Players that simply enjoy the franchise will have fun with this one because that is just what it is… fun. Far Cry 6 needs a bit of polishing to make it a great game but I would not pass this one up, even if holding off until it is on sale. 8/10 – Review by Brando, full review here.

Honourable Mention – Deathloop

New IP

These games must be new intellectual properties in 2021.

Winner – Returnal

Returnal is not for the faint of heart and can be seriously challenging in some sections. With no chance to save, falling to a foe can wind the clock back hour’s worth of gameplay but it is an extremely rewarding experience making it further and further on each cycle. With a desolate, hostile world to explore and a mysterious story to unravel, everyone who can get their hands on this one should jump on the opportunity. Review by Brando, full review here.
