Console Games of the Year Day 8 – Best Graphics

Spread the love
OMG
Over the month of January, the OMG crew will be releasing polls for our community to vote on their favourite console games of 2020. These games have been nominated, categorised and discussed by those behind the scenes here. We do acknowledge that everyone’s favourite 2020 games may not be on our lists, as unfortunately we are not able to play and review every game that comes to console. This is a bit of fun and chance for you to win prizes.

Many of these Games of the Year posts will come with a chance for you to win some loot such as Cyberpunk 2077, Fifa 21, a year of Xbox GamePass and more.

To win this loot is simple:-

  • Vote via the poll and comment at the bottom of this article with the game you voted for and with your first name and initial of surname. (This is to help with bonus entries)
  • You can get bonus entries by voting each day and liking our category posts on Facebook, Twitter and sharing them BUT you must vote.
  • That’s a total of 5 chances for each prize. Winners will be announced 7 days after the polls go live via the website and posts on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

We are giving away a code for The Touryst on Xbox, compatible with Xbox One and updated for Xbox Series X|S. This prize is only open to Australian and New Zealand residents.

Best Graphics

Rules: We will be judging a game’s graphic on best version of the games are released on, for example Cyberpunk 2077* will be judged on it’s Series X version, same will Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales  being judged in the PS5 version.

Call of Duty: Cold War – PS4|5 and Xbox One, Series X|S

Cyberpunk 2077 – PS5 and Xbox Series X|S*

Cyberpunk’s story, exceptional side-missions, eccentric NPCs, gunplay and outstanding location has me enthralled and it is one of those titles that I look forward to sitting down to become V to continue my journey with taking on Night City. For our full review in progress, click here.

* Note that our Cyberpunk nominations are for the Series X|S and PS5 versions. We have not reviewed the base console version or currently endorse those versions.

Demon’s Souls – PS5

Demon’s Souls is a game that tests the most patient of gamers and stays true to its origin. The world and the characters in it, though harrowing, are very beautiful to look at and completing the many challenging, but fair tasks in Demon’s Souls is a very rewarding feeling. It is not at all for the faint of heart and I imagine the global death-count is astronomical, although I highly recommend everyone try it, especially fans of the genre. Click here for our full review.

Doom Eternal – PS4, Switch and Xbox One

ID have developed their best DOOM to date, solidifying why the franchise has remained so popular for nearly three decades. It’s bigger, better and bolder in every way. For fans and newcomers alike, DOOM Eternal is an enjoyable, action packed experience that is gruesomely satisfying. For our full review, click here.

Final Fantasy VII Remake – PS4

Gears 5: Hivebusters – Xbox One and Xbox X|S

Hivebusters is an awesome DLC package and the start of the new generation console experience. It is a visually stunning package that provides a full background story of Scorpio Squad, linking escape directly into the main game. The characters, their personalities and their backstory fully immerse players into the game and make us care about those that previously seemed like they were just characters there for a game mode only. The only question is around the price. I could justify spending the $30 for this but not everyone can justify $30 for around 3 hours game time. Click here for our full review.

Ghost of Tsushima – PS4

Overall Ghost of Tsushima is a masterstroke of art, gameplay and open world exploration. This is a game to be savoured like a fine wine aged to perfection. Do not rush through this, as there is so much to see on this island of Tsushima. The story is perfectly placed and toned throughout as the Samurai who becomes a hero of the island and like Jin, this game is a legend. Sucker Punch should be extremely proud of this PS4 exclusive. This is how you end a generation with a game that hits it for six from every possible angle. Click here for our full review.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales – PS4|5

Miles Morales is a bright, charismatic A-grade student, who is not only able to step into the shoes of Spider-Man but does it so well that Insomniac have reflected that into this stellar game. Miles and his support characters create a memorable story in a beautiful backdrop. The action and activities will keep players webbed to their screen until credits role, it is just a pity that its shorter run time will keep players wishing it had a longer narrative in Miles’ first independent outing as the friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man. Resident Evil 3 – PS4 and Xbox One

It is a pity that Resident Evil 3 remake has dropped the ball. While its visuals and sound design are near a perfect ten, this game is just too shallow. It is bewildering as to why a lot of the substance that made the RE2 remake so successful is not present. The game is shorter than the RE3: Nemesis original game released over 20 years ago, missing puzzles, enemy types and a real thrill. After the amazing opening introductory levels and first hour is up, the sense of excitement just falls away and all that is left is a very average and very slow action game. If RE2 was praised for its presentation, gameplay, and faithfulness to the original, RE3 can only be praised for one of those aspects and that is not good enough. Click here for our full review.

The Last of Us Part 2 – PS4

The Last of Us: Part II is brutal, violent, confronting and at times just outright depressing. The world that has been established is in a league of its own, brought to life by characters and performances that are phenomenal, engaging and genuinely interesting. Such an emotionally driven, highly cinematic and interactive experience is a once in a generation feat to pull off but it is one that Naughty Dog have masterfully accomplished.
