OMG Game of the Year 2021 – Best Remake/Remaster, Family and Game for Children

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is more than a remastered collection of a beloved trilogy of RPG’s, it’s a gateway for new players to enter a franchise they may have left behind due to fear of getting into their dated looks and mechanics. For returning players it’s the opportunity to relive the epic saga in a close-to-current gen state. Mass Effect has never been more accessible, more enjoyable and more exciting to think about in terms of its future prospects than in 2021 with Mass Effect: Legendary Edition. 9/10 – Reviewed by DAYNE, review found here.

Honourable Mention – Alan Wake Remastered

Alan Wake Remastered is the hard back edition to the original. Neater presentation, a reinvigorated interest and opportunity for a new audience while serving as a tasty addition to the collection of existing fans that have been clamouring for more of the troubled writer for over a decade. Honourable Mention – Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139

Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139 is a game for those who enjoy a story-driven open-world game that leads the player to a journey that captures the imagination the more time they invested. With so much to do, either within the main story or on a side quest, Neir Replicant has no trouble keeping the player interested and invested in finding out what each of the five different endings of the game could be. Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139 is a game that will strike a chord with the players who grew up playing the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo 64 and is highly recommended. 9/10 – Reviewed by J, review found here.

Winner – The Smurfs: Mission Vileaf

The Smurfs: Mission Vileaf is a playful platforming adventure that doesn’t overcomplicate itself with complex mechanics. The simplicity of the experience makes for a great introduction to the genre for young players and despite a handful of challenging sequences late in the game, it remains fairly accessible to players of multiple age groups. 8/10 – Reviewed by DAYNE, review found here.

Honourable Mention – PJ Masks: Heroes of the Night

PJ Masks: Heroes of the Night has been developed with the youngest of players in mind and is a great adaptation of the animated series they will likely be familiar with. It’s fun, simple and charming, introducing basic ideas and genre elements into a light tale of good guys and bad guys that avoids any overly sinister tones or themes that may alienate young players. 7/10 – Reviewed by DAYNE, review found here.

Honourable Mention – My Friend Peppa Pig

My Friend Peppa Pig is an excellent example of how to introduce video games to the youngest of players. The high level of interaction, educational sequences, and freedom to explore at the players pace is fun, simple and accessible. Peppa Pig is the perfect playground for the next generation of video game players to dip their toes into. Full of charm, playful energy and an authentic presentation, there’s plenty to keep the kids coming back for more to further explore the world of the TV sensation. 8/10 – Reviewed by DAYNE, review found here.
