The Week That Was!

Here at OMG we have all the news and announcements from the past week in one spot. PlayStation have hosted a smaller State of Play showing off new titles coming to PS5 and PS4. PlayStation and Xbox have announced their new monthly games, with Sony giving 3 extra titles for PS VR players.  We have 2 reviews with The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes and Alan Wake: Remastered. To finish off we have 30 0f this weeks newest trailers including Halo Infinite campaign gameplay, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, A new Dark Pictures, Forza Horizon 5, Iron Harvest, Peppa Pig and lots more.  Join us for the week that was.

Major News and Announcements

PlayStation State of Play

PlayStation has had another State of Play this morning showing off a number of titles coming in the next few months and into 2022. While nowhere near as explosive as their late direct there is definitely some things here that might cater to most of the gamers. We’ve also seen the first title for Novembers PlayStation Plus titles.

PlayStation Plus November Lineup

PlayStation Plus November line-up is here with a whopping six titles in total available for players to add to their games library. From Tuesday, 2 November, partake in an epic dodgeball tournament with Knockout City, play sleuth and spot imposters in social deduction game First Class Trouble, then wield weapons and battle monsters in the fantasy world of Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning.

In addition, to celebrate PS VR’s 5th anniversary, this month’s PlayStation Plus line-up will include three bonus PS VR titles. Survive the horrors aboard a procedurally generated spaceship in The Persistence, tackle zombies in The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners and showcase your sword skills in roguelike Until You Fall.

Here’s a look at November’s Games With Gold which will bring a variety of titles to subscribers starting with Moving Out and Rocket Knight on the 1st November.

BlizzConline Cancelled

Next years BlizzConline event has been cancelled.
In the blog below the message from the team states:
“We’ve decided to take a step back and pause on planning the previously announced BlizzConline event scheduled for early next year. This was a tough decision for all of us to make, but it’s the right one.
Any BlizzCon event takes every single one of us to make happen, an entire-company effort, fueled by our desire to share what we create with the community we care about so much. At this time, we feel the energy it would take to put on a show like this is best directed towards supporting our teams and progressing development of our games and experiences.
Additionally, we would also like to take the time to reimagine what a BlizzCon event of the future could look like.”

A Quiet Place Announcement

The Week that Was! Sunday 17th October, 2021

Saber Interactive and iLLOGIKA, along with EP1T0ME, have announced the development of A Quiet Place, a new single-player, story-driven horror adventure video game based on Paramount Pictures’ acclaimed film franchise. This first official video game set in the terrifying A Quiet Place universe will deliver an original story and gameplay that captures the compelling suspense, emotion and drama for which the series is famous. The game is in development by iLLOGIKA, the Montreal-based studio with veteran talent from the Rainbow Six and Far Cry franchises, and published by Saber Interactive, the Embracer Group company behind the hit game World War Z and the upcoming Evil Dead: The Game.

“The A Quiet Place video game will let fans experience the tension of the films with a level of immersion they’ve never felt before,” said Hervé Sliwa, Creative Director at iLLOGIKA. “We’re excited to work with EP1T0ME and to team up with Saber Interactive to share this unique vision of hope and horror with players everywhere in the future.”

“The amazing success of the A Quiet Place movies makes it clear audiences are hungry for more adventures in this universe, and iLLOGIKA is creating their own truly engaging experience that lives up to the name of this beloved property. We are proud to say that A Quiet Place is the first game we will be releasing by an external studio from the growing Saber publishing label,” said Todd Hollenshead, Head of Publishing at Saber Interactive.

Review- The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes

Supermassive Games’ production of The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes makes for an enjoyable thrill ride. It is complete with strong characters, a story that makes the player keep coming back for more, two different cuts to experience between the Curator and Theatrical Cut, smooth quick time events, and the three new difficulty modes. Whether played alone in the dark or with friends locally in Movie Night Mode or Online, this is a game that is well done from the start to the frenetic finish.

Review – Alan Wake Remastered

Trapped in the horrors of his own writing, author Alan Wake must survive the darkness and save his wife in the psychological thriller that has been a cult classic since its original launch as an Xbox console exclusive in 2010. Alan Wake Remastered is finally here, bringing the epic six-episode story and its two special episodes together and for the first time, the experience is also available on PlayStation.

The unique gameplay, thrilling narrative and malevolent Dark Presence have never looked better with the various visual and technical enhancements that have been added. While the experience doesn’t quite reach the presentational standards of current gen titles, after a decade of fans clamouring for more, any Alan Wake is some good Alan Wake.

Review – WWE 2K22

For the first time since 2000, 2021 saw no release of a WWE title. Following a lacklustre and broken release with WWE 2K20 theinevitable next entry was delayed to completely rebuild the gameplay engine, implement a new control system and significantly improve the visuals. The extra time and polish has paid off with the impressive WWE 2K22. Arriving less than three weeks from WWE’s flagship event, WrestleMania, the timing couldn’t be better for the WWE Universe and its players to unleash chaos in the squared circle with a smoother, more satisfying experience.

Featuring a heavily cinematic Showcase mode that follows cover Superstar Rey Mysterio’s rise with twelve matches that proved pivotal to his legacy two decades into his career, there is the Universe mode which is essentially just a free-play mode but with a few new tweaks and three additional content heavy modes. The MyRISE mode allows players to create custom Superstars and take them through the NXT developmental system and all the way up to capturing the Championships on offer on the main roster, a card driven MyFACTION mode that lets players unlock cards and send their Faction into the history books and finally, the long awaited return of the GM mode in MyGM. MyGM gives players the power to book their own roster and compete against rival brands to drive theirs to the top.

WWE is back on consoles in a big way and with so many new features, mechanics and modes, WWE 2K22 certainly hits different.

Review – Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarök

Dawn of Ragnarök is the largest expansion to date for Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, kicking off the second year of new content. With a larger map to explore than offered in the Wrath of the Druids and Siege of Paris expansions that came before, Dawn of Ragnarök also introduces more meaningful new abilities and gear than the early pair of expansions.

Taking place in the mythological dream world that serves as the core skeletal structure of Valhalla’s lore, Eivor is transported once again into the role of Odin, referred to as Havi. Tasked with rescuing your son, Baldur, from the fire giants, Odin must forge an alliance with the dwarves of Svartalfheim to prepare for a battle of the ages against the mighty Surtr and prevent Ragnarök – the end of all worlds.

With access to abilities that embrace the firey abilities of the Muspel’s and icy strength of the Jotuns, the combat has evolved into its most mythologically inspired iteration, yet which is enjoyable, varied and fun to experiment with when using the six new abilities to solve puzzles as well. A fantastical setting rooted in Norse mythology, fun boss fights and an excellent new suite of abilities result in a familiar yet engaging expansion to Eivor’s own evolution as they follow in the footsteps of a god.

Review – Elden Ring

YOU DIED. These two words in Elden Ring, like the other titles from developer FromSoftware, are not a prediction, they are a spoiler. Death in Elden Ring isn’t necessarily failure but rather a learning tool, a means to taking additional time to further understand the intricacies of the complex combat mechanics that are required to not only survive but to complete the story.

Cast into the world of the Lands Between with minimal hand-holding, no waypoints, mission markers or quest logs, Elden Ring allows players to embark on their treacherous open-world adventure with unbridled customisation that extends to the gear, weapons and attributes of the player’s character.
