Here at OMG we have all the news and announcements from the past week in one spot. A quieter week in big news with the release of the Nintendo Switch OLED. Review – Back for Blood

Zombie survival games are a genre which has seen many entries in different forms over the years. From the games modes of the Call of Duty franchise that started way back in World at War days right through to the new titles such as the recently released World War Z Aftermath. Now the newest entry into this category is Back 4 Blood and it brings the question, does Back 4 Blood survive the constant onslaught of survival titles or is it something that should be Left 4 Dead?

Back 4 Blood is an apocalyptic survival First Person Shooter title that comes from Turtle Rock Studios and has been self-labelled as the spiritual successor to arguably their biggest title in Left 4 Dead. Although this game is a zombie survival title, the enemy takes on a different form in the Ridden. Humans have been infected by a deadly parasite and in turn become the Ridden, taking on various mutations and forms, while varying in size and having diverse deadly abilities, such as exploding on contact or spitting at players from far. It is the player’s role as a Cleaner who are brutally tasked of removing Ridden from their part of the world and helping humanity survive through various military and survival driven missions. The player takes on the role of one of the eight Cleaners and works in a team of four across a four Act, 31 mission story. Each mission can be played solo or with a team of up to 4 human players in a cooperative campaign. If players cannot find a full squad, Back 4 Blood always ensure a full squad and the remaining team members are replaced with AI characters who can be taken over upon the death of your character.

Review – Back 4 Blood

Review- Insurgency: Sandstorm

Rarely does a game come along that captures the essence of what it truly feels like to be a combatant in a chaotic battle or warzone, while many have lauded the 1998 movie ‘Saving Private Ryan’ as being the movie that truly brought home how horrific, chaotic, and senseless war truly is, Insurgency Sandstorm is the gaming world’s version of that movie. Whilst Insurgency Sandstorm has its issues in gameplay, there can be no doubt that this game does not shy away from the truth of what war truly is with the representation of war brought to life by New World Interactive.

Review – The Sundew

The Sundew is a dystopian cyberpunk point and click adventure which takes the player on an adventure about a cyber cop named Anna Isobe. The year is 2054 and Anna has been tasked by her boss to put a high value target to sleep. Little does she know that her actions will have major repercussions. The player must find the clues and items to progress through a well thought out story, complete with eloquent writing and a wonderful setting in futuristic Japan.

Review – WWE 2K22

For the first time since 2000, 2021 saw no release of a WWE title. Following a lacklustre and broken release with WWE 2K20 theinevitable next entry was delayed to completely rebuild the gameplay engine, implement a new control system and significantly improve the visuals. The extra time and polish has paid off with the impressive WWE 2K22. Arriving less than three weeks from WWE’s flagship event, WrestleMania, the timing couldn’t be better for the WWE Universe and its players to unleash chaos in the squared circle with a smoother, more satisfying experience.

Featuring a heavily cinematic Showcase mode that follows cover Superstar Rey Mysterio’s rise with twelve matches that proved pivotal to his legacy two decades into his career, there is the Universe mode which is essentially just a free-play mode but with a few new tweaks and three additional content heavy modes. The MyRISE mode allows players to create custom Superstars and take them through the NXT developmental system and all the way up to capturing the Championships on offer on the main roster, a card driven MyFACTION mode that lets players unlock cards and send their Faction into the history books and finally, the long awaited return of the GM mode in MyGM. MyGM gives players the power to book their own roster and compete against rival brands to drive theirs to the top.

WWE is back on consoles in a big way and with so many new features, mechanics and modes, WWE 2K22 certainly hits different.

Review – Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarök

Dawn of Ragnarök is the largest expansion to date for Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, kicking off the second year of new content. With a larger map to explore than offered in the Wrath of the Druids and Siege of Paris expansions that came before, Dawn of Ragnarök also introduces more meaningful new abilities and gear than the early pair of expansions.

Taking place in the mythological dream world that serves as the core skeletal structure of Valhalla’s lore, Eivor is transported once again into the role of Odin, referred to as Havi. Tasked with rescuing your son, Baldur, from the fire giants, Odin must forge an alliance with the dwarves of Svartalfheim to prepare for a battle of the ages against the mighty Surtr and prevent Ragnarök – the end of all worlds.

With access to abilities that embrace the firey abilities of the Muspel’s and icy strength of the Jotuns, the combat has evolved into its most mythologically inspired iteration, yet which is enjoyable, varied and fun to experiment with when using the six new abilities to solve puzzles as well. A fantastical setting rooted in Norse mythology, fun boss fights and an excellent new suite of abilities result in a familiar yet engaging expansion to Eivor’s own evolution as they follow in the footsteps of a god.

Review – Elden Ring
