Best Platformer
Rules: These are games must have platforming as a major aspect of gameplay.
AstroBot – PS5
Astro’s Playroom is a perfect package to highlight what the impressive DualSense controller can do. It is also a responsive and entertaining platform adventure. The PlayStation history lesson Astro’s Playroom provides with its collectables and easter eggs will pull on the sentimental heart strings of the more innocent times of growing up. Astro’s Playroom is pre-installed on all PlayStation 5 consoles and should be played through once by all owners of this new console. Click here for our full review.
Crash Bandicoot It’s About Time – PS4, Switch and Xbox One
Crash Bandicoot It’s About Time a great all-around good time for young and old alike. The new characters, new level designs, quantum mask mechanics, boss level designs and difficulty along with the alternate timelines and additional multiplayer content allow for hours on hours of fun for the whole family to enjoy. New Super Lucky’s Tale – PS4, Switch and Xbox One
New Super Lucky’s Tale is a title for kids and big kids alike. It has it all, great platforming with tight controls, a beautiful visual design, amazing sound, lots of level variations and tonnes of extra add ons. As a mascot, Lucky has a long way to catch Crash, Sonic and Mario but he had made a closer step towards them. Click here for our full review.
Ori and Will of the Wisps – Xbox One and Series X|S, Switch
Ori and the Will of the Wisps is the definition of a sequel that succeeds, taking a formula that worked and expanding it in a way that enhances the overall experience. The execution of the new gameplay mechanics is seamlessly integrated via simple tutorials that don’t restrict the accessibility. Raising the bar in a genre as popular and established as platforming is no small feat but it is one that Ori and the Will of the Wisps has masterfully accomplished. Click here for our full review.
Sackboy: A Big Adventure – PS4|5
Sackboy: A Big Adventure is an accessible title that will scratch any platforming gamer’s itch. The controls are responsive and deaths never feel cheap. Even though levels seem a little dull to begin with, the game really ramps it up with some of the best platforming level design this reviewer has played. While the collectibles will keep some gamers glued for a while to come, the ease of this title is disappointing. Overall, Sackboy: A Big Adventure gets gamers together, while the online mode is not yet available, it will put family and friends on the same couch enjoying some wholesome platforming action.
