Carrion – PS4, Switch and Xbox One
Boasted as a horror game in reverse, CARRION puts the player in the role of a crimson red monster with menacing tendrils in side-scrolling 2D glory. By putting the perspective of the monster front and centre, the player is not in fear or the prey for once, instead the enemy is terrified of YOU. This role reversal is fun, less stressful and interesting and engaging enough to not tire of playing as an overpowered monster that is all but unstoppable. Click here for our full review.
Cyberpunk 2077 – PS5 and Xbox Series X|S*
Cyberpunk’s story, exceptional side-missions, eccentric NPCs, gunplay and outstanding location has me enthralled and it is one of those titles that I look forward to sitting down to become V to continue my journey with taking on Night City. For our full review in progress, click here.
* Note that our Cyberpunk nominations are for the Series X|S and PS5 versions. We have not reviewed the base console version or currently endorse those versions.
Deep Rock Galactic – Xbox One
Dreams – PS4
Immortals Fenyx Rising – PS4|5 and Xbox One, Series X|S
Immortals Fenyx Rising is an enjoyable game in a unique world that remains entertaining for hours on end. The combat is responsive, the in-game items are vast and the puzzles rewarding. Immortals Fenyx Rising is a game that can be enjoyed by almost anyone and I recommend that as many people do so. or our full review, click here.
Fuser – PS4, Switch and Xbox One
Ghost of Tsushima – PS4
Overall Ghost of Tsushima is a masterstroke of art, gameplay and open world exploration. This is a game to be savoured like a fine wine aged to perfection. Do not rush through this, as there is so much to see on this island of Tsushima. The story is perfectly placed and toned throughout as the Samurai who becomes a hero of the island and like Jin, this game is a legend. Sucker Punch should be extremely proud of this PS4 exclusive. This is how you end a generation with a game that hits it for six from every possible angle. Click here for our full review.
Hades – Nintendo Switch
Hades is a highly addictive title that will have players constantly doing ‘just one more run’. The combat, story, weapon and Boon system are well done and to the point that the escape experiences are never the same twice. It makes time fly by with each run and to the point where two and three o’clock in the morning happened to me often. Hades has impressive different enemy and boss types, which keeps battles fresh. It requires great strategy and sometimes a bit of luck to make it to the far reaches of the final boss. The joy and reward of that first successful escape attempt is so satisfying and makes the 20 to 30 hours played getting there well worth it. Well-done Supergiant games on this masterpiece! Maneater – PS4|5, Xbox One and Series X|S
Tripwire Interactive have created a world that is fun to explore and full of both predators and prey to rip apart that ultimately leans towards repetitive and lacking in variety as the game pushes on. The simplified gameplay featuring single button prompts is easy and accessible to become familiar with, but unfortunately as the shark grows and becomes more powerful, the threat and challenge of the game diminishes which puts the player in a position of power that is not likely to be overcome. The joy and satisfaction of mindlessly wreaking havoc on innocent swimmers is one that holds on through until the end and at the reasonable launch price of $59.95, Maneater is worth sinking your teeth into. Windbound – PS4, Switch and Xbox One
I was skeptical about playing a survival game that was not Player versus Player, however it only took a short amount of time to realise that I had something good on my hands. Windbound has set a new benchmark and could pave a bright future for the survival genre, giving life to what was becoming a mundane genre for this guy. Click here for our full review.
